Grace just moved to San Francisco and is excited to start over at a new school. The change is full of fresh possibilities, but it’s also a tiny bit scary. It gets scarier when a minotaur walks in the door. And even more shocking when a girl who looks just like her shows up to fight the monster.
Gretchen is tired of monsters pulling her out into the wee hours, especially on a school night, but what can she do? Sending the minotaur back to his bleak home is just another notch on her combat belt. She never expected to run into this girl who could be her double, though.
Greer has her life pretty well put together, thank you very much. But that all tilts sideways when two girls who look eerily like her appear on her doorstep and claim they’re triplets, supernatural descendants of some hideous creature from Greek myth, destined to spend their lives hunting monsters.
These three teenage descendants of Medusa, the once-beautiful gorgon maligned by myth, must reunite and embrace their fates in this unique paranormal world where monsters lurk in plain sight.
I got this book on Amazon a while back because someone recommended it on Twitter and it was Free! It has taken me some time to get to read it and I am glad I listened to the recommendation. I am a greek mythology fan, especially when it is told with a modern twist. This means I have loved Rick Riordan’s Greek & Roman series. I have also enjoyed the Goddess Test series by Aimee Carter. This book did not disappoint!
This was a surprise. The fact that the three main character’s, Grace, Gretchen & Greer were descendants of Medusa. The author does a great job of explaining the new mythology. She has really turned the classic mythology of Medusa on it’s ear. It is believable and really interesting. I loved that most of the story you are trying to figure out what is happening and why the girls are connected. The other fun part of being descendants of Medusa is that they are huntresses and fight monsters! Oh yeah, kick but girl monster fighters.
I really enjoyed how we met Grace, Gretchen and Greer. I am a fan of reading a story from the point of view of the main characters. In this book it is the three sisters. Tera Lynn Childs does a great job introducing us to the sisters slowly and very naturally. They have all lived different lives apart from each other and it is fun to see the differences and their strengths. I was really intrigued to see how they acclimated to being and working together.
Event though there was so much action & fighting in this book, there was small inkling of romance with each of the girls. Again, I was impressed and loving that each of the girls had story lines with boys in their lives. I know there is more coming and I am excited to see where it goes.
MY TWO CENTS
I am excited to read more about the three girls. The author has set up this journey for them nicely in this first book in the series. The cliff hanger was so exciting and not frustrating. Oh yes folks, there is a cliff hanger! But not to worry, #2 in the Medusa girls series is already out! Sweet Shadows was released in September. Go get it, it’s already on my “To Read” list! And thanks to whoever recommended it on Twitter!
