Synopsis from Goodreads

A threat from the past could destroy the future. And the clock is ticking…

Kaleb Ballard’s relentless flirting is interrupted when Jack Landers, the man who tried to murder his father, timeslips in and attacks before disappearing just as quickly. But Kaleb has never before been able to see time travelers, unlike many of his friends associated with the mysterious Hourglass organization. Are Kaleb’s powers expanding, or is something very wrong?

Then the Hourglass is issued an ultimatum. Either they find Jack and the research he’s stolen on the time gene, or time will be altered with devastating results.

Now Kaleb, Emerson, Michael, and the other Hourglass recruits have no choice but to use their unusual powers to find Jack. But where do they even start? And when? And even if they succeed, it may not be enough…

The follow-up to Hourglass, Timepiece blends the paranormal, science fiction, mystery, and suspense genres into a nonstop thrill ride where every second counts

So as you may have read in our lil blog before, this author, Myra McEntire, has inspired some firsts for this reader!  It was my first “Rock the Drop” contest, where I went out late at night, with my daughters in tow, to get a signed copy of Hourglass with the first chapter of this book, Timepiece in it.  (read about it here)

It was also the first time I went to hear author speak at a book signing.  It was here in town and I enjoyed her fun and snarky humor.  It makes reading her books even more enjoyable.

I was blessed to have a first too as a blogger and read Timepiece before it was released!  OH MY, like a book lovers dream come true.  To get to read a book, EARLY especially one  you have been anxiously awaiting since you finished the last book in a series.  AHH!  This book did not disappoint!

I loved the fact that this book was from Kaleb’s point of view.  Don’t get me wrong, Michael and Emerson’s story line is amazing.  It was one of the reason’s I loved Hourglass so much.  But there was always something about Kaleb!!  He was so much more than the hunky but sweet guy in Hourglass and I was excited to get to know him better.  I was so blown away by what depth of emotion you learned about every character because of Kaleb’s ability.  It really gave  you a great look into the characters.

That brings me to LILY!!!  AHHH!!!!  As a Mexican American woman who loves YA,  WHOO HOO!  We got a Latina lead character!!!  I was so excited about Lily in Hourglass, hoping we would see more of her and her Abi!  This was so great!  She was strong and sassy.  But even though Emerson and her are similar, it wasn’t a repeat of Emerson.  They are strong and kick butt in their own ways.

Now, one of my favorites things about this book and series is the romantic relationships.  Relationships and true bonds are treated with such honor and a sense of specialness that you don’t get to read about a lot in YA series.  Kaleb’s parents, Michael & Em and Kaleb & Lily are not just hormone amped lovers. It felt like with the whole aspect of each’s unique gifts and the time continuum, that they were meant to be together.  And together they were stronger and able to get through the crisis that they were presented.  I know, I am a hopeless romantic.  But I love this story and how it’s not just that overpowering urge to be with some beautiful super powered hot guy or girl.  It had depth and there was purpose and I LOVED IT.

Then there is the villain, Jack, he is back and is after Em with a vengeance.  This book really gets started fast and the action is pretty non stop.  I was always a bit intimidated by time travel and all its complications. But Timepiece really does make clear what all is going wrong with the Rips and the timeline issues Jack created in the first book.

Overall, these characters, especially the strong girls are ridiculously cool!  The girls really hold their own on the journey up against some seriously swoon worthy guys.

My only complaint is that I have to wait till next year for the next installment in the Hourglass series… Infinityglass!
